Albion, NY (WHAM) - Sean Weis and Brennan Moody were lifelong friends, according to Sean’s dad, Patrick Weis.

“They were very close,” said Patrick, who said they also shared the same group of friends.

Patrick says the pair were among the friends at a bonfire Monday night in Albion to celebrate the final day of high school, which wrapped up hours beforehand.

After they left, he said, the pair and two other students were involved in a one-car crash on Eagle Harbor Road in Albion.

Brennan died at the scene. Sean was flown to ECMC. Both were in the back seat. The two occupants in the front seat suffered minor injuries.

“He’s definitely gone through some tough stuff,” said Patrick. “The EMTs say, when they saw the sight, they thought Sean was dead ‘til he moved his arm. For him to make a recovery from where near death to where he is now is miraculous.”

Patrick says Sean suffered multiple serious injuries, including a fractured skull and a broken neck. He’s had surgeries, and has more to go.

“It’s heartbreaking. I don't wish this on anyone at all,” said Patrick. “To see this, to your baby hooked up on machines and unable to help him is very hard.”

He says Sean has no recollection of the crash, but has been awake at times over the last couple days.

He says he’s been impressed by his son’s strength.

"He has so much heart and determination. When he woke up, he didn't ask about his own injuries,” said Patrick. “Once he realized he had been in a car accident, he asked about the other kids involved.”

Police have not yet said if the 18-year-old driver will be ticketed.

Albion Central School District superintendent Michael Bonnewell says they are working with students on a remembrance ceremony for Brennan, but are waiting to hold it until Sean can attend.

Bonnewell says they will deliver Sean’s diploma to the hospital if he’s unable to make graduation next Friday.
