Man wanted in Virginia for murder arrested in Geneva

(WHAM) - U.S. Marshals arrested a murder suspect from Virginia who was spotted in Geneva on Saturday.

According to U.S. Marshals, Alton Powers, 19, was wanted for shooting and killed 23-year-old Stephen White III in Newport, Virginia on April 17.

U.S. Marshals obtained information that Powers might be in the Geneva area on May 28. Members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force set up surveillance, were able to locate Powers, and set up an arrest operation.

Powers was arrested while walking on N. Exchange Street in Geneva on Saturday afternoon.

Powers was charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, three counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling, reckless handling of a firearm, discharge of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school, and property damage.
