Birmingham’s historic downtown theaters took a hit with the pandemic and violent protest.

Chad Fisher has played at Birmingham’s Lyric Theater for several years.

Music is his only source of income.

COVID-19 and recent riots are causing him to have a hard time.

“It was a shock at first I think we are all settling in to the reality that we won’t be back to work anytime soon,” said Fisher.

Windows and doors were smashed during Sunday’s protest.

The Alabama Theater has been impacted as well.

"There are so many things that need to change. So many things we need to be more aware", said Gary Jones from the Alabama Theater, "and careful with and I just feel for all of the families that have been affected by the riots.”

Organizers with the Lyric Theater and Alabama Theater said all they can do is look forward and wait for a positive turn.
