Emergency Management Agencies in Etowah and Calhoun counties are keeping a close eye on river levels, particularly the Coosa River which runs through both counties.

The recent rainfall is affecting many residents across East Alabama.

One Anniston homeowner says he woke up to a tree fallen on top of his vehicle. It came down during an overnight rainstorm.

Calhoun County EMA workers are monitoring weather conditions.

"Some water across some roads people need to be mindful of that in terms of hydroplaning," Michael Braxton, Calhoun County EMA Director said.

Michael Andrews, a Gadsden resident says he didn't want to risk hydroplaning when he saw the road he lived on was blocked off.

"You go off in that water, you don't have time to call for rescue," Andrews said.

Andrews lives off Old Pump Station Road. With a barrier up, that means finding a different route to work.

"I've got to wake up an extra hour early when it does rain because I know this road is gonna flood out," Andrews explained.

With the rain this week, workers at the Gadsden-Etowah EMA and Calhoun County EMA are monitoring the Coosa River's water level.

"The overflow from that does make it's way into the river," Barton said. "The river conditions will continue to rise for days after that."

EMA officials in Gadsden say a couple of roads were considered impassable Thursday.
