A Hale County mother is facing a list of charges after police said she assaulted a school resource officer.

District Attorney Michael Jackson said more parents are confronting teachers and it is making some quit.

Police said Bria Clayton got aggressive when she was confronted about the gun in her front seat at Moundville Elementary School. Clayton had two children in the car.

"It makes me feel very uneasy," one mother said.

The mother did not want to reveal her identity, but said her son saw the entire thing.

"It was a lady and the cops were trying to put her in the cop car and they had her on the ground," she said, "He was just like, what is going on, what happened."

Clayton is facing seven charges total, including disorderly conduct, obstructing government operations, possession of drug paraphernalia, assault in the third degree, possession of a firearm on school property, carrying a concealed weapon without a license and resisting arrest.

Moundville Police Chief Tony Banks said his department has gotten some calls from people concerned about the incident.

"We have a lot of parents who get upset with how things go at school. It usually works out pretty good, but every once in a while, a parent tries to take matters into their own hands," Banks said, "Then it becomes sort of a threat, because they're trying to handle it and we don't know what their intentions are."

Jackson said they are taking threats made to teachers very seriously. If convicted, Clayton could face up to seven years in prison.
