Tuscaloosa based Westervelt Company expanding into Clarke County

New jobs are coming to the Hwy 69 corridor in West Alabama.

Tuesday, the Westervelt Company announced a major expansion in to Clarke County.

The Tuscaloosa based company already runs a sawmill in Moundville and now plan to open a second mill in Thomasville.

The expansion is expected to create 125 new jobs in Alabama's black belt, where unemployment numbers are historically the highest statewide.

Construction should start in the spring of 2019 with an opening planned in late 2020.
