State troopers were searching for three people who ran from a crash early Tuesday morning following a high-speed pursuit along I-71 in north Columbus.

A state trooper tried to initiate a traffic stop for an SUV that was speeding in the area of Polaris Parkway, Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Michael Akers said.

The SUV stopped along the I-71 South, but the driver sped away as the trooper approached the SUV, Akers said, and a pursuit with speeds reaching more than 100 mph began on the interstate.

The SUV exited the highway at E. North Broadway, and the trooper stopped the pursuit as the SUV approached the residential area near Reis Avenue, Akers said.

The SUV headed back towards the highway and struck a pickup truck on E. North Broadway at Eisenhower Rd shortly after 3:30 a.m., Akers said.

A witness saw two men and a woman run from the SUV, Akers said, and the male driver of the pickup truck was taken to Riverside Hospital with injuries, but he was expected to be OK.

Investigators were following up on leads to identify the occupants of the SUV. There was no indication the SUV was stolen, Akers said.

ABC 6/FOX 28 will continue to follow this story.
