A Linden Church is now scrambling to cut the grass and brush off the snow after a suspect allegedly steals thousands of dollars of yard equipment stored in a church garage.

“I guess I’ll just walk it, we have to walk it,” said Percy Wright, after she says a theft stole a riding mower November 2nd, from The Good Shepherd Baptist Church on East Hudson St.

“We are a church have respect for God’s property,” said Wright, a long-time member of the church who regularly volunteers to mow the lawn and clear the sidewalk of snow.

“The winter is getting ready to kick in, “ said Wright, I don’t know what we are going to do about that.”

Church members say someone was caught on security camera jumping over a fence to head towards the church garage, just hours before a John Deere riding mower, several push mowers, a leaf blower, and snowblower were discovered missing inside the garage.

“This is going to be a hardship on the church,” said Wright, who says all the equipment was locked together with a chain when they were stolen.

“I hope you can use it,” said Wright, when ABC 6/FOX 28 asked him about the person responsible for the theft, “We are church and God will take care of us, he’ll take care of you for what you did.”

Columbus Police now investigating the break-in. If you have information about the thefts call 614-645-4545.
