CHARLESTON, SC (WCIV) — Charleston Police Department officials say that they are aware of rumored plans to destroy Charleston structures related to slavery, and they are taking it seriously.
Black Lives Matter protesters filled the streets with peaceful protests as the Charleston Police Department and other law enforcement agencies kept guard and watch over it.
As of 4:45 p.m., there's hasn't been major destruction, although there has been some graffiti like the Confederate Defenders statue at the Battery in downtown Charleston.
Among the rumors are Boone Hall Plantation and the Slave Market.
The Charleston Police said they are taking all threats to destroy or damage structures seriously, and they have added extra police presence across downtown Charleston to ensure all the buildings' safety, including the ones related to slavery.
