The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office arrested a man from North Charleston on Thursday for charges of involuntary manslaughter and drug charges from an incident in 2019.

Joseph Zack Marlowe, 54, was charged with involuntary manslaughter, distribution of a controlled substance within proximity of a school, distribution of a controlled substance, and distribution of a controlled substance to a person under 18 years of age.

Marlowe was originally charged in 2019 with unlawful child neglect after a 15-year-old girl died while at Marlowe's home.

According to past warrant reports, police responded to a call at Marlowe's residence about an unconscious person. While there, deputies found a grey scale and drugs in the home as well as the unconscious girl, who later died.

On Friday morning, his bond was set at $250,000.
