LARAMIE, Wyo. — A Cheyenne community college is working on plans to acquire a private technical school in Laramie that's set to close in June.
The Laramie Boomerang reports the Laramie County Community College has proposed taking on WyoTech's auto technician programs, giving the college the opportunity to expand in southeast Wyoming.
WyoTech, which began operation in 1966 in Laramie, was acquired by the Education Credit Management Company in 2015. WyoTech officials say the Laramie campus had 65 full-time employees and nearly 400 students last year.
College President Joe Schaffer says the state would need to appropriate about $8.5 million over the next four years to make a deal work. He says Albany County would need to acquire an ongoing revenue stream of about $1.1 million to support the project.
