A strong and potent cold front will drive south across the state today, bringing with it a chance of showers and storms. And some of those storms could be strong to severe.

While the greatest threat for severe weather was certainly this morning across north and central Florida, a few strong damaging wind gusts cannot be ruled out this afternoon as daytime heating returns ahead of the squall line that is the cold front. As of 8AM, the Storm Prediction Center has added Indian River and Okeechobee counties to the risk for an isolated strong to severe storm late this morning into the early afternoon hours.

The front will begin to move into Okeechobee and Indian River counties around 11 a.m. If we are to see any strong to severe storms today, these two counties are the areas to watch. The front is a fast mover and should slide through many locations within an hour's time. The strongest storms will be on the leading edge of the front itself, so look for the heaviest of the rain and strongest of the winds immediate as the storms arrive in your neighborhood.

The front will continue sliding into Martin and St Lucie counties through 12 and 1 p.m., arriving into Palm Beach county by 2 p.m. and moving south by 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Again, the threat for strong storms is certainly higher the farther north you are, but an isolated strong to severe wind gust cannot be ruled out across these counties, especially with the added hours we have of daytime heating, which can put more storm fuel into the atmosphere before the front arrives.

Tonight, clearing skies will return as winds shift around out of the north and west. Expect much drier air as well into our Sunday. Lows tonight in the 60s with highs tomorrow in the upper 70s.

By Monday, our winds will once again begin to veer back out of the south as our next storm system develops well to our west. Just like this one, it has the risk of bringing lots of snow to the north and east while a few strong to severe storms are possible for the southeast. It's too early to say if those strong to severe storms may move into Florida, so keep checking back on the forecast. For now, just know our rain chances will be on the increase Tuesday and Wednesday, with drier but very windy conditions on our Thursday.
