Cedar Rapids man charged after person hit by dump truck in Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa — A Cedar Rapids man is now charged after allegedly hitting another man with a dump truck in Des Moines last week.

Authorities say on January 22nd, 2020, Jerry Bemer, 71, was turning northbound onto 8th St. from westbound Grand Ave. in downtown Des Moines when he hit 50-year-old Michael Monkmeier. Monkmeier was rushed to the hospital with multiple injuries and remains in critical condition, according to Des Moines Police.

Bemer is charged with Failure To Yield To A Pedestrian In A Crosswalk. Authorities are still investigating the crash.
