After protests, Albany County to hold walk-up COVID-19 testing

ALBANY NY (WRGB) - County leaders have a plan to help increase COVID-19 testing, as people gather in groups to protest the death of George Floyd, and the Capital Region heads to Phase Two of reopening.

Officials say those who participated in demonstrations, along with first responders can get a free walk-up COVID-19 test Thursday, June 4 at the Capital South Campus, 20 Warren Street, in Albany.

Testing is available between 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., and those interested are asked to bring an ID and insurance. if you don’t have insurance, it is free, and no appointment is needed.

County Health Commissioner Dr. Elizabeth Whalen said those who have concerns related to being at a mass gathering this past weekend should be tested once this week, and once next week.

County Executive Dan McCoy gave the latest COVID-19 numbers for the County.

McCoy says there are 1,754 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Albany County, an increase of 7 in the last 24 hours.

Additionally, there are now 725 people under mandatory quarantine and 6 people under precautionary quarantine. So far, 4,688 individuals have completed quarantine, with 1,382 of them having tested positive and recovered.
