Music Students at Albany Community Charter School are going places!

Under the leadership of Mr. Dwayne Bass and Mr. David Gordon, students are working to raise money to participate in the WorldStrides Heritage Festival during their Spring Break in Orlando.

Due to the impact with the music program, the teachers were recently invited to Nashville to share their teaching style in Albany.

David Gordon joined CBS 6 Sunday morning to discuss the curriculum, as well as the goals of this students. They event in Orlando takes place within Universal Studios. Gordon says band students from the Elementary and Middle schools have shown exceptional perseverance and motivation to commit to this unique experience.

There is a fundraiser set up to help the students. In part it reads, "This experience is headed by Mr. Dwayne Bass and Mr. David Gordon, two General Music/Band educators who take extreme pride in servicing this 90% free and reduce lunch demographic. With a strong focus on excellence, these two educators encourage students to strive for the impossible no matter what and to “Be Your Best” regardless of social circumstances."

On CBS 6, Gordon spoke about a song they wrote to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Here is a link to a behind the scenes look.

Here is the song:

You might remember Mr. Gordon from last March. He introduced us to a student who plays the recorder. Coming up in March, they will participate in the National Recorder Month celebration at the New York State Museum again.
