The Albany Common Council is introducing legislation Monday night that would create a rewards program for helping police to arrest anyone using an illegal dirtbike or ATV..

Albany police have been looking for ways to crack down on those riders for months now.

Common Council member Richard Conti helped draft the measure.

He says tipsters could get up to $1,000 if their tips lead to an arrest.

“This is just another tool that may be useful. It's not the answer but it's a tool that may be helpful in dealing with the problem,” Conti said.

Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins says he is on board with the idea.

The council will introduce the legislation during their meeting Monday night at 7pm.
