Assault in Albany sends one to hospital

ALBANY -- Police are investigating an assault that took place Friday evening on Elk Street -- and sent a woman to the hospital.

At about 5:15 p.m., officers responded to a report of an assault in the area of Elk Street and Dove Street. The victim told the officers that while she was walking through the parking lot at that location, an unknown male approached her from behind and struck her in the back of the head. The victim, 49, fell to the ground and sustained head and face injuries.

The victim was treated at the scene and transported to Albany Medical Center for further treatment.

The suspect is described as a black male last seen wearing dark colored clothing.
