ALBANY, N.Y. (WRGB) - Friday was a very special night for dozens of Capital Region young people -- a night for them to shine and be crowned king or queen of the prom!

The Night to Shine is a worldwide event sponsored by former football star Tim Tebow's foundation. He wanted young people with special needs to experience the preening and pampering and sheer joy of attending a prom.

On Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, there were hair and makeup stations, a red carpet, paparazzi and a dance band.

And that’s just the start! There were also limo rides, corsages and boutonnieres, and catered dinner.

“It’s just an expression of our faith and love for others,” said coordinator Tom Roemke. “And a way of bringing community together.”

This was the second year the event has been held and organizers say it has been a tremendous success.
