TROY, N.Y. (WRGB) - Jada Scott is a student at Troy High School. Scott says students at her school take football very seriously and that a schedule change to prevent violence between Troy and Albany students won’t stop the students from showing up.

“People are just going to get tired of it," Scott said. "They’re not going to stop coming to the games but they’ll most likely stop associating with certain people most definitely.”

Street violence in Troy and Albany plays a major role in the schedule change.

The move comes after Daquan Williams of Troy was arrested and charged with murder on Wednesday following an October 11 shooting in Albany.

For the past two days, CBS6 has made multiple attempts to speak with both school districts on camera but no one has provided anything other than the two statements attached below.

“I understand all the violence and stuff but there’s really no reason to fight over something so stupid,” replied Scott.

Both school districts say this decision was made to prevent any violence from taking place between the two schools.

It’s a step to keep rifts between the two youths at bay.

Destiny Pride, Jada Scott’s mom, says “I think it’s easier for them to do it on a Saturday then they don’t have to rush out of school. On Saturday, they can get up and go watch the game.”

Pride thinks the change is a good idea, but as for the violence?

“It’s a Saturday. What is that going to change? It’s not really going to change much. I hope it does though,” replied Pride.

Kick off is set for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Troy High School.
