Court documents say a shooting Saturday morning in East Austin that left a man dead may have started as a dispute over a piggy bank.

It happened at around 9:45 a.m. in the parking lot of the Mueller City View Apartments in the 1100 block of Reinli Street, near Cameron Road.

Austin Police officers responded to multiple 911 calls of someone being shot and found 37-year-old Issac Dixon in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.

Marvin Elam, 38, told officers he and Dixon argued because of his belief that Dixon had stolen his daughter's piggy bank, an arrest affidavit said. He said Dixon swung at him and later started shooting, prompting him to fire back. But police say video surveillance doesn't support Elam's story.

For now, Elam's been charged with unlawful possession of firearm by a convicted felon.

Dixon's step-mother is asking the community to help pay for his funeral expenses. You can donate here.
