Fiery motorcycle crash in West Austin kills two, including former UT Longhorn

UPDATE: The University of Texas football great and former NFL Chicago Bear running back, Cedric Benson, is dead after a motorcycle crash in Northwest Austin last night, according to state and national media outlets.


ORIGINAL STORY

Multiple agencies are on scene of a crash between a motorcycle and a minivan that left two people dead in northwest Austin late Saturday night.

Austin-Travis County EMS reported that the crash happened at the 5600 block of Mount Bonnell Road at 10:22 p.m.

Initial reports stated a “vehicle and person on fire,” according to EMS.

Medics declared a man and a woman in their 30's deceased on scene. Two other patients refused transport to the hospital.

A spokesperson with the police department states that the motorcycle was traveling westbound on RM 2222 when it struck the white minivan that was pulling out of Mount Bonnell onto the roadway. The two people who died on scene were on the motorcycle, the spokesperson said.

Austin Police have closed off RM 2222 in both directions at Mt Bonnell Road while they conduct their investigation.
