AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin man was arrested Friday night after discharging a firearm in the middle of an automatic car wash.
Court documents show that Austin Police responded to Jurassic Car Wash, located at 4809 South Congress Avenue, just after 9:45 p.m. for a shots-fired call.
The owner of the business told officers he heard a loud bang inside the automatic car wash. The owner stated that when we investigated the sound he discovered that the subject, identified as 26-year-old Erick Rodriguez, had left his vehicle while the car wash was still active and said, “I’m having a bad day, I just discharged my firearm,” according to the affidavit.
Police detained Rodriguez and located a 9mm handgun in the passenger side seat.
Rodriguez told police he thought the gun’s safety feature was on when he pulled the trigger. The round went through the bottom-left portion of the driver’s side, police say.
Rodriguez was arrested and charged with discharge of a firearm within certain municipalities. He was held on $3,000 bond but is no longer in the Travis County Jail system Sunday afternoon.
