Almost four years after the fatal shooting of Keith Lamont Scott and three years after Charlotte’s Braxton Winston was elected as a Charlotte City Council member, Vice TV will air a special titled Black South Rising on Sunday, June 7. Emmy award-winning correspondent Alzo Slade follows Winston as he goes into his second term documenting his effort to make Charlotte more equitable for black and brown residents.

The trailer opens with an aerial shot of Marshall Park as Winston says “Keith Lamont Scott really was a spark that lit a fire on a tinder bed that had been building up over time.” With original footage from the 2016 protests mixed with social media content from the ground and community commentary, Winston and Slade discuss topics of race and justice in Charlotte.

Vice TV is the television arm of Vice Media headed by director Spike Jonze launched in February of 2016. The channel is available through most traditional cable and satellite outlets, and the special Black South Rising will air on Sunday, June 7 at 11 a.m. EST.
