A FORMER footballer, who was linked to a multi-million-pound Ponzi scheme, has been cleared of any wrongdoing following an investigation.

After a three-year probe by Scotland Yard, Michael McIndoe will face no charges over allegations of fraud made against him.

The former midfielder, from Edinburgh, had been linked with conning hundreds of footballers out of money, including Robbie Keane and Jimmy Bullard.

The 38-year-old said: “Just been officially informed by Scotland Yard that I have been completely cleared of the allegation of fraud made against me and the CPS are taking no further action.”

The century-old Ponzi scam involves generating returns for investors through revenue paid by new investors.

“I have to say that I’m really happy that finally my name has been completely and officially cleared of these false allegations made several years ago,”

Mr McIndoe said.
