Fallen Marine Will Be Escorted From Dover To New York On Monday

On Monday, April 22, 2019, Staff Sergeant Christopher Slutman will be escorted beginning at 11:00 am from Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Delaware to New York City.

Slutman, 43, was one of three U.S. Marines killed Monday, April 8, 2019, by a roadside bomb near Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan. U.S. Marine Cpl. Robert A. Hendriks, 25, of Locust Valley, New York. and Sgt. Benjamin S. Hines, 31, of York, Pennsylvania. also died in the Taliban attack.

The procession for Slutman will proceed from Dover Air Force Base to the Delaware Memorial Bridge, onto the New Jersey Turnpike, to the George Washington Bridge, into the City of New York. The procession is slated to take at least three hours.

To honor Chris, firefighters, police, EMS, and the public plan to line the route, rendering honors as the motorcade passes. The American flag will be displayed on every overpass along the route.

On Thursday, April 25, 2019, a public visitation will be held from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm and again from 7:00 pm-9:00 pm at the Joseph A. Luchese Funeral Home, Inc, located at 726 Morris Park Avenue, The Bronx, New York, 10462. Members of the public are invited to attend. Parking is limited and public transportation is encouraged. A large turnout for this event is expected.

On Friday, April 26, 2019, at 11:00 am, the funeral for SSgt Christopher Slutman will be held at Saint Thomas Church, 1 W. 53rd Street, New York, NY 10019. Space will be limited, so not all members of the public wishing to remember Chris will be permitted to attend.

Following the funeral, there will be a southbound escort of SSgt Slutman on Saturday, April 27th, 2019. Those details will be posted as they become available.
