Gas Station Near Christiana Hospital Catches Fire Wednesday

Newark – Just before 5:30 Wednesday evening firefighters from the Mill Creek and Christiana Fire Companies along with crews from Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder responded to the 4000 block of Ogletown Stanton Road for reports of a commercial structure fire.

While en route to the scene crews learned that the Exxon station was reportedly on fire in the back of the building and that the propane tanks were nearby.

Upon arrival, crews reported that the building had been evacuated and that smoke was filling the building.

Crews soon reported that fire had extended into the roof area. Within minutes crews reported that the fire had been knocked down.

The incident caused lanes on Harmony Road and Route 4 to be blocked while crews worked to extinguish the fire.

Fire marshals responded to the fire and are investigating.
