UPDATE (12/10 at 3:24 p.m.)

Light snow continues to fall in southern counties and the Plateau, which is where main impacts will be for the remainder of the weather event.

The majority of the midstate has steered clear of snow accumulation thanks in part to temperatures just above freezing and mainly due to dry air just above the surface. Chief Meteorologist Katy Morgan says the snow is evaporating before it can reach us.

Moving forward into the evening hours, additional minor accumulation is possible for the Plateau and southern counties. In those areas, temperatures are hovering right around the freezing mark, which may result in a nice coating of snow. Snow showers are expected to taper off for all of Middle Tennessee by around 9 p.m.

Temperatures will drop for the majority of the midstate overnight into the mid to upper 20s. Slick spots, especially bridges and overpasses, will be confined to southern counties along the Alabama border and the Plateau.

UPDATE: 12/10/19

While most of middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky will see some sort of snow, the chances for accumulation have decreased.

Some counties might only see flakes flying or a light accumulation on grassy surfaces. The Cumberland Plateau could still see about an inch of snow, but there's not a high impact for snow-covered roads at this time.

The National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Statement for Nashville and surrounding counties and a Special Weather Statement for counties along the Cumberland Plateau.

Drivers will have to take it slow Tuesday evening as the roads will remain wet and could get icy as the temperature freezes.

Several school districts are on delays Tuesday for the chance for snow. Click here for the latest list.

Light accumulating snow will be possible Tuesday morning and afternoon, as a strong cold front pushes through middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky.

Scattered showers will continue through Monday evening, ahead of the front. Cold air will pour in after midnight, and the temperature plunge will begin.

Chief Meteorologist Katy Morgan says by 6 a.m. Tuesday, it's possible the area may have a few spots close to if not just below freezing. The main takeaway from Tuesday's snow potential is that chances of slick roads will increase throughout the day.

After noon, temperatures will start to drop throughout the midstate, making slick spots possible as light snow showers continue through midday.

Snow total should remain light. The highest amounts are expected on the Plateau, around 1-2". The rest of Middle Tennessee, including Nashville and Murfreesboro, will see around 1" of snow or less. A few factors could increase or reduce those amounts. Chief Meteorologist will talk about that on FOX 17 News at 9 p.m.

Temperatures will drop to the mid 20s early Wednesday morning, so isolated slick spots will be likely for the Wednesday morning commute.
