Family and friends are mourning the loss of a father and Ft. Campbell Sergeant reportedly killed by his stepfather in Dekalb County on Halloween.

Tyler Durden, 37, was a Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army, affiliated with the Church of Christ and a Free Mason, according to his obituary.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) agents said Durden was shot and killed by his stepdad, Albert Wayne Fisher, Jr. TBI said the shooting broke out at about 6 p.m. on Halloween at a home along Eckles Heights Road in Liberty.

TBI said Durden went to to the home where Fisher and his mom lived. Fisher came to the door and fired a weapon sometime during their encounter. Durden was transported to the hospital where he later died.

Neighbors in Liberty say this tragedy has stunned the community.

"I was shocked like everybody else, you know, it's something don't ever happen here. It's just a real tragedy, you know, got everybody upset, got the doors all locked, and people just really panicked."

DeKalb District Attorney, Bryant Dunaway, says this case is not being investigated as an accident.
