Longtime Wilson County school bus driver David Wright was laid to rest in a school bus casket Sunday.

Wright passed away on Aug. 13 at the age of 76. He was a well known and respected public school transportation official in Lebanon, who dedicated more than 50 years of his life serving the Wilson County school system.

"Mr. Wright was a selfless leader his entire life by being the example we should all strive to be," the Wilson County Sheriff's Office said. "He never wanted or asked for anything in return for his service to the community which made him a special servant."

Crowds gathered at Lebanon High School on Sunday for Wright's funeral. He was later buried in a custom, yellow school bus casket.

A representative with Wilson County Schools called Wright, "an incredible man with so many amazing stories to his credit."

A few weeks prior to his death, Wright was honored for his service to Wilson County Schools. It was announced that the transportation department will be named in Wright's honor.
