Nashville musician David Olney passed away during a performance in Florida over the weekend.

Olney, 71, suffered a heart attack on Saturday during a performance in Santa Rosa Beach, according to his website.

According to a musician he was playing with in Florida, Amy Rigby, “Olney was in the middle of his third song when he stopped, apologized and shut his eyes.”

Olney moved to Nashville in 1973 and was a key member of the music community.

"He wrote sonnets and starred at the Nashville Shakespeare Festival, and his live concerts blended tenderness and ferocity, theater and sincerity, agitation and embrace," his website said.

His songs were recorded by Emmylou Harris, Del McCoury, Linda Ronstadt, Steve Young and others.
