NASHVILLE, Tenn.--An inmate scheduled for execution on Thursday has been moved to death watch.

Nicholas Sutton has opted for the electric chair -the fifth Tennessee inmate to do so, for the stabbing death of a fellow inmate while already serving a life sentence for the murder of his grandmother. Sutton was also among four inmates who filed a petition with the state pushing to add execution by firing squad and euthanasia oral cocktail to Tennessee's list of execution methods.

The Tennessee Department of Corrections (TDOC) reported Sutton was moved to death watch early Tuesday morning. Death watch is the three-day period before an execution when strict guidelines are put in place for the control and security of the inmate.

Sutton will be placed in a cell next to the execution chamber and be under 24-hour observation by correctional officers. He will still be able to receive visitors on his visitation list.
