NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Two people in a stolen vehicle are killed after running into a tree.

Four people were in the stolen vehicle that lost control and ran off the roadway on Donelson Pike near Lakeland Drive just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Metro Nashville police. The driver and front seat passenger were killed.

The driver has not been identified at this time. Police identify the front seat passenger who died as 19-year-old Sean Holmes of Nashville.

An individual in the back seat went to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. That person has been identified by police as 19-year-old Vonquae Johnson of east Nashville.

A second person in the backseat ran away. Police followed a trail of blood to Wellman Drive, where they believe someone picked up that individual.

Police say excessive speed and failure to maintain lane are contributing factors to the crash.

Three guns were recovered from the vehicle, which police say was stolen from an apartment complex in west Nashville on August 7.

The investigation is ongoing.
