NASCAR announced this week that the Cup Series would return to the Music City in June 2021. Nashville Super Speedway will host the Cup race, ending the 37 year drought.

NASCAR President Steve Phelps called Nashville a vital market for the sport and an integral building block into making the NASCAR schedule more dynamic. That sentiment was echoed by the owners of Nashville Super Speedway, Dover Motorsports’ President and CEO Mike Tatoian who told FOX 17 Sports that this is only the beginning.

“The investment in the city and the time and capital, our plan for the race that we’re moving to Nashville is a long term one. We plan on operating that track and having a Cup Series race there for a long period of time. This isn’t just one year or two years and we’re done. We’re planning on operating the track and hosting a Cup Series race there for a long time. We’re really looking forward to that,” said Tatoian.

You can catch the full-length conversation with Tatoian when FOX 17 Sports Overtime returns this Sunday at 10:00. Also, this Sunday, NASCAR is back in action on FOX 17 with the Folds of Honor QuickTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
