The Northwestern football team took an eight-point lead into the fourth quarter and held that 29-21 advantage over Bangor on Friday night at Bangor Memorial Park Stadium.
Turning points
: The Tigers forced turnovers on back-to-back possessions to maintain their eight-point lead in the fourth quarter.
Northwestern junior cornerback Deven Bollinger recovered a fumble forced by senior linebacker Tyler Slifer after an 18-yard Bangor completion for a first down with 7:45 left in the game. On the next Slaters' offensive play, Slifer intercepted a pass for the Tigers at the Northwestern 41 with 5:32 left in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers held Bangor deep in its own territory on a 4th-and-20 on the Slaters' next possession to close out the win.
Northwestern forced three turnovers in the game and the Slaters didn't have any takeaways.
Top performers: Tigers sophomore running back Nick Henry had 122 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries.
Bollinger rushed for 94 yards and a score for the Tigers. He also passed for 74 yards.
Northwestern sophomore Justin Rodda caught four passes for 74 yards.
Slifer played a role in the key back-to-back turnovers for the Tigers.
Bangor senior quarterback Bo Meyers passed for 164 yards and ran for a touchdown.
Slaters senior Garrett DeBoer rushed for 39 yards and two touchdowns.
Sophomore Joe Genteel had 83 receiving yards for the Slaters.
What it means: The 10th-ranked Tigers improved to 4-1 on the season and will play at Palmerton next Friday night.
The Slaters fell to 3-2 on the season and will host Saucon Valley next Friday night.
