Tenth-seeded Verona tops Hanover Park to win North 2, Group 2 title

Senior Christina Colon pitched a four-hitter with two earned runs, three walks and nine strikeouts and sophomore Melanie Naeris added two hits, including a home run, with three RBI to propel 10th-seeded Verona to a come-from-behind 6-2 victory over top-seeded Hanover Park in the final of the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 2 tournament in East Hanover.

Verona, which last won a sectional title in 2005, trailed 2-0 after three innings.

Verona (13-13), which has won five straight games including three shutout wins during that span, advanced to Friday's Group 2 semifinals and will face Ramsey, No. 7 in the NJ.com Top 20 and the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 2 champion, at Caldwell University at 1:30 p.m.

Freshman Jacquelyn Loudon had two doubles with two RBI and freshman Samantha Costigan added two hits with a double and two runs scored in the win.

Junior Aryana Galioto had two hits with a double, a RBI and a run scored and junior Nicole Miller added a RBI-triple to pace Hanover Park (18-6), which lost for the second time in its last eight games to end its season.
