Times of Trenton track and field notebook: WW-P North girls have a big day at the Mercer Relays

West Windsor-Plainsboro North's girls and Hamilton West's boys were the unofficial champs at the Mercer County Relays, and the Knights' girls didn't even make it close.

WW-P North’s girls rolled up 102 points in the available results, better than 40 more than any other team in the field on their home track at Saturday’s meet. Princeton was second with 57.5 points.

The Knights took first place in seven of the 16 events, with Sydney Abitanto (10-0) and Anjali Chandrasekhar (8-0) teaming up to win the pole vault relay, Jordan Brown (5-0) and Isabelle Fabius (4-10) winning the high jump relay, Nadia Elhossieni (38-10) and Juliana Bonfrisco (28-2) winning the shot put relay, Aditi Parekh (16-5 ¼) and Anca Negoiu (15-6 ¼) winning the long jump relay, Callia Cordasco, Rhythm Satav, Allison Duane and Salini Iyer winning the 4x1600 in 22:22.35, Parekh, Kruti Shah, Megha Gongalla and Emma Faivre winning the 4x100 relay (49.94), Cordasco, Iyer, Duane and Satav winning the 4x800 relay in 10:12.04, and Parekh, Shah, Sophie Cherayil and Faivre winning the 4x200 in 1:45.03.

Allentown was the only other school to win two events, with Daniella Johnson, Jessica Lyons, Najah Phillip and Nayya Phillip winning the 1600 SMR in 4:19.46 and Johnson, Lyons, Brenna McCormick and Angelina Scotto winning the DMR in 13:07.56.

On the boys side, Hamilton West edged out township rival Nottingham 73-70 for the unofficial title. Hamilton West won the long jump relay thanks to Richmond Shasha (21-8 ½) and Ahmad White (20-9), and the Hornets won the triple jump relay with jumps from Shasha (45-4) and White (41-7 ½). Hamilton West also tied for the high jump relay title with Ewing on jumps from Shasha (6-0) and White (5-10). Nottingham won the javelin relay behind Dylan John (147-4) and Zion Bethea (144-0), the 4x100 with Louis Akpadago, Shamali Whittle, Judeson Mirac and Dana Ridley in 42.37, the 4x110 shuttle hurdle in 1:04.36 with Whittle, Cory Louis-Jean, Uche Ezeukwa and Alix Oge in 1:04.36, and the 4x200 with Akpadago, Javon Jenkins, Mirac and Ridley in 1:28.09.

Hopewell Valley's boys and WW-P North's boys each won twice. The Bulldogs took the shot put relay behind Chukwuka Obidike (47-10 ¾) and John Muoio (46-4 ¼) and the 1600 SMR in 3:36.38 behind Andrew Carsky-Wilson, Sean Dolan, Amaury Griffin and Gabe Lefebvre. WW-P North won the 4x1600 in 18:58.28 with Anish Agarwal, Ashrrith Rachakunta, Ajit Kandasamy and Jeffrey Chen, and the DMR in 10:38.81 with Vedang Lad, Ahmed Elmogi, Yesh Shrivastava and Luke Johnson.

Princeton's girls 4x400 time of 3:58.27 from Colleen Linko, Gabrielle Goddard, Kendall Williamson and Raina Williamson was good for second in the state this season as of Sunday morning, behind only Union Catholic's 3:51.87 from earlier in the month. Christian O'Neal of Trenton stands tied for fourth in the state after he jumped 6-4 at the meet, and Shasha has the state's third-best triple jump at 45-4 according to MileSplit and just five inches off the best distance from Kingsway's Orion Joyner also Saturday at the Woodbury Relays.

Steinert's Terris Burton remains with the second-best 400 hurdles time in the state at 54.96 from the College of New Jersey Open two weekends ago, behind only the 53.96 from Christian Brothers' Liam O'Hara. WW-P South's Sameer Das has the fourth-best 3200 time in the state at 9:23.93 after his performance in the Cherokee Relays last week, Princeton's Paul Brennan still holds the state's best discus toss at 174-10 from Lawrenceville's Ed Poreda Invite two weekends ago, and Shasha is fourth on the long jump list at 22-4 ½ after his jump at the East Brunswick meet two weekends ago.

Nottingham’s Akpadago, Whittle, Mirac and Ridley still hold the best 4x100 time of 41.82 after their run at the Moorestown Invite two weekends ago, and Hamilton West’s Byron Hearst, Kevin Boswell, Brandon Muir and Javon Porter are fourth on that list at 42.95 after the Metuchen Relays earlier this month.

At the Somerset County Relays on Saturday at Ridge, Montgomery's boys won the 4x200 in 1:32.44 behind Marco Lainez, Matthew Crooks, Alex Benitez and Carter McFadden. The Cougars also had the winning long jump team with Jason Knight jumping 20-2 and Jai Battle leaping 18-4 ¾, and saw Battle jump 40-2 and McFadden jump 38-3 ¾ to win the triple jump relay. Knight (5-10) and Shawn Krishnan (5-6) helped Montgomery finish in a three-way tie for the high jump relay win. Montgomery's girls won the triple jump relay with Chilly Wallace jumping 34-5 ½ and Nishi Hosamane jumping 34-2 ½. The Cougars' Annie Hathaway stands fourth on the state's pole vault list after her 11-0 at that meet.

Elsewhere, Lawrenceville's Robert Enck won the 800 at Wednesday's Father Judge meet in Philadelphia in 1:55.62, good for the third-best time in the state this season, Katherine McGrath tossed the javelin a meet-best 129-11, good for the second-best distance in the state this season behind Oakcrest's Brielle Smith's 168-6, and Jack Wragan won the pole vault at 13-0. The finishes helped Lawrenceville's girls finish third of 20 scoring teams at the meet with 63 points and the Big Red boys take fourth of 18 with 50 points. The Big Red's Margaux Terrasson has the second-best 800 time in the state after her 2:16.32 at the Father Judge meet, behind only the 2:11.88 Leena Morant of Union Catholic posted in early April.
