Several crews are responding to multiple fires in the Boise National Forest as well as across Boise County.

It seems lightning from storms overnight is the cause of a majority of the fires.

The U.S. Forest Service says it is aware of five new fires. Three of the fires are under the protection of Idaho Department of Lands (IDL), two of which are in the Boise National Forest.

The other two fires are in the Idaho City Ranger District of the Boise National Forest, which the U.S. Forest Service is staffing and responding too.

The Shafer Fire is burning on the backside of the Bogus Basin area, near Shafer Butte. It is about 1.5-2 acres in size and burning in timber.

The Pumpkin Fire is northeast of Horseshoe Bend. You can see it from Highway 55. There is no road access, but engines have eyes on it and crews were ordered. This fire is over 20 acres and burning timber.

It would also appear that another small fire may be southeast of Bogus Basin above a wilderness ranch, but there is no further information on it.

At this time no structures appear to be in any danger of the reported fires.

The Boise County Emergency Management team also says they are monitoring multiple fires across the county.

One fire is on the west side of Hawley Mountain. It's estimated at 40 acres and crews are on scene, but unable to get to the fire at this time.

There is also a small fire burning near Hungarian Ridge, and a small fire burning near Meadow Creek northwest of Thorn Creek.

"Aerial recon will provide more information later this morning," BCSO says. "It is suspected all of these fires are lightning-caused from last night. As the temperatures rise today there could be more fires flaring up.
