A Boise South Junior High School student was tested for measles this week. The Central District Health reported the student did not have measles.

In a follow-up memo Friday, SJHS sent parents a letter notifying them the student who was tested did not have measles.

"The safety of your child is a top priority," SJHS wrote. "This situation serves as a reminder for people to check their immunization records and those of their children to ensure they are up-to-date on their MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine."

In the event of a confirmed case of measles, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare Division of Public Health requires that children, or anyone working at the school, who cannot prove immunity prior to exposure must be excluded from school for at least 21 days.

"We strongly encourage all students be immunized," SJHS wrote. "For a complete list of Idaho immunization requirements, as well as information where immunizations may be obtained, please visit our Health Services - Immunizations website or call your school nurse."

The CDH provides information regarding measles on its website.
