You may have noticed some differences on Fairview Ave. and Main St. in downtown Boise.

ACHD added new bike lanes and crosswalks, as well as painted some traffic arrows.

But the work isn't done yet.

As you'll recall, the lanes have been repainted, straightened out in places and the confusing designated left turn lanes were fixed. This is all after a design went wrong in something that ACHD says, looked better on paper.

With the newly laid bike lanes, CBS 2 News asked a local cyclist to ride the lines to see how they felt.

"They weren't super well marked," said cyclist Allan Schroeder. "I don't know if they were planning on adding kind of more paint to help delineate the bike lanes, but if you're going in a straight line they're fairly easy to manage."

ACHD is adding another layer of paint on the bike lanes along Fairview and Main. They're also adding chevrons to add distinction to the road.

"Any sort of bike lane is good for both parties for both drivers and cyclists alike. I'm happy to see they're at least making an effort and I think this is a very good start," said Schroeder.

ACHD says the project was originally budgeted to cost $420,000, but the changes in the design may change the outcome cost. According to ACHD they will get updated costs from the contractors shortly.
