PM Modi launches chopper service between Daman & Diu, daily flight service to Ahmedabad

The chopper service is expected to close in the 16-hour distance by road between the two Union Territories to an hour by flight.

Prime minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched the Pawan Hans helicopter service between Diu and Daman and a daily Ahmedabad-Diu flight service. The chopper service is expected to close in the 16-hour distance by road between the two Union Territories to an hour by flight.

PM Modi flew to Daman from Surat in a chopper to inaugurate the flight services and will be back in Surat on Sunday evening to launch the night marathon-Run for New India. Diu and Ahmedabad will be connected under UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik–let the common citizen of the country fly) scheme.

Many industries in Daman remained closed on Saturday on account of the event as factories workers were to the college ground for the public meeting in Daman. In his speech, PM Modi congratulated the UT authorities for making Daman Open Defecation Free and said, “the authorities have distributed over 1.40 lakh LED lights in Daman which has saved the total power bill of middle class families by Rs 7 crore.”

Over 1500 government college students in Daman worked as volunteers on the road maintaining traffic and guiding people. PM Modi also praised the administration for building homes for labourers under PPP model and for providing them good food. Over half of the pavallion was filled by migrant workers.

PM Modi also inaugurated development projects worth Rs 1000 crore for Daman.
