CHICO, Calif. – The singed cat rescued by a KATU News team in a neighborhood destroyed by the Camp Fire continues to recover.

KATU News reporter Lashay Wesley and photographer Ric Peavyhouse found the cat almost as soon as they stepped out of their news van when they arrived in Paradise, Calif. to cover the fire.

The cat is healing at the Butte Humane Society in Chico, Calif. and is still looking for its owner.

Staff at the humane society says the cat is doing very well and they’re optimistic about her recovery.

When Lashay and Ric found the cat, they thought she would be blind from her injuries, but her sight is fine. The cat suffered severe burns to its face and body.

Ric and Lashay took it to a 24-hour emergency veterinary clinic.

The humane society is caring for several cats that were burned in the fire and that are still looking for their owners.

If you recognize the cat, contact the clinic manager, Emily, at emilyacevedo@buttehumane.org with the ID number from the photo of the cat you think might be yours and send any photos you may have and details such as their age and any distinguishing features.
