HOOD RIVER, Ore. – Crews are working to contain a wildfire burning about eight miles east of Hood River in the Columbia River Gorge.

The Oregon Department of Forestry said Sunday evening that the fire along Fir Mountain Road is burning about 250 acres. It is burning to the east and toward Godberson Road.

At this point no structures are threatened.

"Today [Sunday] firefighters on the Fir Mountain Fire were challenged with wind and dry vegetation as they used dozers and hand crews to construct fireline on the fire perimeter," the Oregon Department of Forestry said.

The fire was first reported around 11 p.m. Saturday.

Several fire agencies are assisting local fire crews in containing the “aggressive” fire. There are air tankers and water-scooping aircraft helping support crews on the ground.

The cause is under investigation.
