FAIRVIEW, Ore. –Investigators are asking for the public’s help in the case of a mother whose remains were found more than four years after she went missing from her home in Fairview.

The skeletal remains of Tiffany Bettis (a.k.a. Melinda Smith) were found near Chinook Landing last month, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

Bettis was last seen at the Quality Inn in Gresham on March 2, 2015. According to police, she left behind her three children and large family. Relatives say she would have never willingly left her children behind.

Deputies were called Monday, May 20 of this year after someone found remains near the landing along the Columbia River.

On Wednesday, they said they positively identified the remains as Bettis’s.

They said they’re still investigating how and why she died. Deputies said there was no indication there was any risk to the public.

Crime Stoppers of Oregon is offering a $2,500 reward for information that can help lead to an arrest and conviction in any unsolved felony crime.
