Deputies arrest suspects accused of assaulting, robbing Aumsville man

AUMSVILLE, Ore. – Two suspects are in custody after a lengthy robbery investigation, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said.

Marion County deputies first begin investigating the incident on July 29 when they responded to a residence on Porter Way SE, near Aumsville, around 8 p.m.

When they arrived, the victim, Robert Carrol, 63, said he had been assaulted in his home.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Carrol said he was held down by someone named “Doug” while the victim’s ex-girlfriend continually hit and bit him.

Carrol said he fought them off, but the man named “Doug” returned to the victim’s home with a gun, the document says. It says Doug held him at gunpoint while his ex-girlfriend grabbed a cigarette rolling machine, digital camera and prescription medication from inside his home.

Then, he said Doug fired a round, but not at Carrol, the court document says.

After a long investigation, deputies identified the suspects as Douglas Marlatt, 56, of Turner and Mallory Seck, 44, of Salem.

Deputies arrested Marlatt on August 1 at 8 a.m. while he was on his way to work.

Marlatt was arrested on charges of assault in the third degree, robbery in the first degree, burglary in the first degree, menacing, and unlawful use of a weapon.

In an interview with a deputy, Marlatt said he and Seck went to Carrol’s residence to retrieve Seck’s belongings. In the affidavit, he said Seck went inside the open trailer. Marlatt said he entered when he heard screaming. He said he saw Carrol and Seck physically fighting. He said Carrol was throwing Seck around, the documents said.

Marlatt denied having a gun or striking Carrol, but he said Seck may have struck Carrol, the document says.

Marlatt is booked in the Marion County Jail on $100,000 bail.

Then, on August 3, deputies executed a search warrant at Marlatt’s residence and found Seck. She was arrested without incident.

Seck was arrested on charges of third-degree assault, first-degree robbery, and first-degree burglary.
