A candlelight vigil was held Sunday outside the home where a 2-year-old boy died in a house fire.

Family identified the boy as Christopher Pearce. The boy was found dead inside the home on Feb. 2.

Oregon State Police initially told KATU News investigators suspected arson, but then said it was too preliminary. OSP said it was still investigating on Sunday and declined to give any more details.

About 50 people gathered outside of the home on West Washington Street.

"He's especially known to everyone for a smile, nonstop fun and always smile," said Charles Pearce, Christopher's grandfather.

Charles Pearce told KATU News the boy lived at the home with his mother and roommates.

"I came over one time and met the people, and I was pleased that my grandson and my daughter were here," he said.

Family told KATU News the two moved in about a month ago.

"He got dealt a short hand of cards and he deserved a lot more than that," said Lisa McCollam, Christopher’s great aunt.

Family said they haven't been given any information about what happened from authorities.

"We're just heartbroken. We are heartbroken over this. We’re still waiting to find answers. We don’t have any answers. Authorities haven't given us anything to go by," said Laura Pearce.
