PORTLAND, Ore. – Hundreds of volunteers worked to clean up the streets of Portland after four days of protests and months of a global pandemic left city roads and thoroughfares a bit worse for the wear.

It was the first time in months that SOLVE - a group known for cleaning up places across Oregon – could grab their gear, round up help, and get to work because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Volunteers we spoke with say it was cleaner than they anticipated.

The group organized this clean-up in only a few hours last night after many volunteers reached out, including Starbucks, all wanting to help.

“Portlanders love our city and were just really wanting to do the work that needs to be done,” said Kris Carico with SOLVE. “We haven’t been out in about 3 months and it has been neglected, so we are happy to be out here despite the circumstances.”

The group maintained social distancing, and wore gloves and face coverings while they cleaned.

By the end of the clean-up, the group filled more than 150 heavy duty trash bags.

If you want to pitch in with their next cleaning event, check out SOLVE’s website for more information.
