PORTLAND, Ore. – Authorities released the name of the 50-year-old motorcycle rider who died Saturday, Jan. 18 in a crash along Northeast Sandy Boulevard in Portland.

Initial reports state Eugene Waldrupe, 50, of Gresham, was heading east on the boulevard when he collided with a driver in an SUV who was trying to cross at Northeast 65th Avenue.

“The impact happened in the westbound lanes of Sandy Boulevard suggesting the motorcycle was eastbound in the westbound lanes,” Portland Police said.

They also believe Waldrupe’s speed might have been a contributing factor in the crash, based on statements from witnesses.

He was the second person to die in a crash in Portland this year, officials said.
