TROUTDALE, Ore. – A wanted homicide suspect was wounded in a shootout with Oregon State Police troopers late Thursday morning after a police pursuit on Interstate 84 westbound, the mulntomah County Sheriff's Office said.

No officers were injured in the incident.

According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office in Washington, the suspect involved is 26-year-old Grayson D.W. Morris. He was being sought in connection to a homicide in Ritzville, Washington early Thursday morning. Investigators said he was considered armed and dangerous.

At about 10:30 a.m., Oregon State Police found the person of interest driving west on the interstate near Hood River.

The suspect fired shots at officers during an ensuing pursuit, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office said.

Then near Rooster Rock State Park, Multnomah County Deputies said the suspect reportedly carjacked a car from a bystander.

Troopers used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle near milepost 18, about a mile east of Troutdale.

There was an exchange of gunfire, and Morris was injured in the shootout, the Adams County Sheriff's Office said.

Multnomah County Deputies said Grason was taken to a hospital for evaluation and booked into jail on four counts of attempted murder, unlawful use of a weapon, robbery, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and attempt to elude police.

I-84 was closed in both directions for several hours. At 2:45 p.m., eastbound lanes reopened. Westbound lanes will remain closed indefinitely because multiple crime scenes need to be processed.

Deputies ask anyone who may have had their vehicle damaged during the incident to call the tip line at (503) 988-0560.

Troopers who fired their weapons have been place on paid administrative leave as standard procedure in officer-involved shooting investigations.
