WOODBURN, Ore. – The head football coach at Woodburn High School was arrested Monday. He’s accused of engaging in an intimate relationship with an underage student.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Woodburn Police Department arrested 38-year-old Nicholas Federico on four counts of second-degree sex abuse, one count of second-degree online sexual corruption of a child, and four counts of first-degree official misconduct.

Investigators say they received a tip at the end of July about a video circulating on Instagram that was allegedly of Federico engaged in an intimate act. After investigating, detectives found evidence that Federico had been messaging at least one student from the school using the app Snapchat. The sheriff’s office said their messages led to an intimate relationship.

Federico teaches physical education and is the head football coach at the school. He has worked for the Woodburn School District since 2011.

Federico was lodged at the Marion County Jail. He’s scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.

Police say any potential victims or people with information helpful to the investigation should call (503) 540-8079.
