Group to try again for Oregon gun-control measures

PORTLAND, Ore. — An Oregon campaign is planning on introducing two measures to strengthen state gun control laws.

The Lift Every Voice Oregon group is spearheaded by Portland-area clergy.

They want to ban state sales of assault weapons and magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.

The group started after the deadly shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida last year.

Since then, organizers say their movement is growing, with thousands of supporters around the state.

"We probably have 100 leaders in the state. Bishops, imams, elected officials, heads of organizations, business leaders, gun groups, they’ll be stepping up to the mic and identifying themselves, standing in solidarity," said the Rev. Mark Knutson.

Last year, the group pushed for a similar gun control measure to be placed on the state ballot, but Oregon's

Supreme Court ruled it needed to be re-written because of vague language.

That proposal was later withdrawn because there wasn't enough time to qualify it by the deadline.
